Amanda Kimmel from Survivor Heroes Vs. Villains

by Gina Scarpa

You don't play over 100 days of Survivor and make it to the final tribal council twice by being an average player and Amanda Kimmel is no average Survivor player. She first made it to the end of Survivor: China but lost to Todd Herzog, then made it to the final day in Survivor: Micronesia, only to lose the million to Parvati Shallow. Last night, she was voted out of Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains, making it the first time she's ever had her torch snuffed by Jeff Probst. Today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview and opened up about her fellow players, in and outside the game.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What were your thoughts when you first asked to play Survivor for a third time?
A. Amanda: I was kinda hesitant. It was just like... I really didn't wanna play again but the fact that I made it to the end twice... I'm a competitive person. I was like, "I cannot NOT do it again. Just do it again. Either you'll do better or worse but you have to do it."

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Who were you most excited to see in the game this time around?
A. Amanda: James! I didn't really like him in China but after, he started opening up more. I saw the real James and he's a great, great person.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Being so close to him, both in the game and in real life, what was it like to watch him deal with his knee injury?
A. Amanda: I was just sick to my stomach. Honestly, I was like, "Oh my gosh, I could be so selfish and keep him in this game." He's a gravedigger, he needs his leg. You don't mess around. He told me what the doctors told him and I knew if he couldn't run on it, he needed to get it looked at. He's still injured right now. He had to have surgery a second time. He hasn't worked since the show. It's awful. I'm just glad he's okay. He's the kind of person who would've never given up. I had to make the decision as to what the best thing was for him.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What is your relationship with Parvati, in and outside of the game?
A. Amanda: I like Parvati but we're not really close anymore since Micronesia. We had a falling out and made up but after this, we don't really talk anymore. We weren't really thinking about working together at all. I don't know what she was thinking. She already had her nest eggs and I did, too. We didn't know if we could trust each other.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you tried to rip the clue away from Danielle and Colby didn't back you up, were you frustrated with him?
A. Amanda: Yeah, I was pissed! It was really selfish of him to just sit there and be like, "I don't care about this." When you have a tribe and you're battling against the opposing tribe, you have to stick together. I was trying to get it for all of us. He was too lazy or tired but I don't get what the deal was. I'll do the hard part, Colby. Just back me up.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Were you surprised to learn that Candice flipped and is now aligned with Russell?
A. Amanda: Yeah, I was shocked. I don't know what she was thinking. Russell and I were playing a tug of war between Candice that last day. He would talk to her and then I'd talk to her and then he'd talk to her and then I'd talk to her. I put myself in her shoes and said, "This is the best situation for you. If you go over there, you're not going to break that alliance up. Your'e on the bottom. Why would you do that when you're in the first two with me?" We had a tight bond going on. At the beginning, we didn't like each other because she was going after James. Once James was gone and we were down to five, we hung out every day and I was surprised that she would flip so fast. Russell has this ability to pick out the weak ones. He told me the same thing as Candice and I was like: It's BS.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You've made it to final tribal council twice so was it kind of cool, in a way, to be voted out, be part of the jury, and get the full Survivor experience?
A. Amanda: I don't like being on the jury. It wasn't fun for me.  Everyone at Ponderosa gave me such a warm welcome though, and that was really nice.
