The Amazing Race 16

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on The Amazing Race, teams headed from Malaysia to Singapore via bus. When they arrive, they have to find the Victoria Concert Hall and Theater and find Alan Wu, host of The Amazing Race: Asia. Cool! Somewhere along this leg, a U-Turn opportunity will present itself which means somebody is going to get screwed tonight.

Jet and Cord, who jumped from last to first last week, are on the first bus while everyone else boards the second. Not surprisingly, Brent and Caite are determined to get to the U-Turn first to make sure they stop Carol and Brandy from making it any further than they already have. All teams meet up in Kuala Lumpur and taking an overnight train to Singapore. It doesn't appear that the train smells pleasant and the sleeping quarters may not be the cleanest. Whatever, take the opportunity to lie down and chill because it's gonna get crazy soon enough.

Dan and Jordan get to Alan Wu first (who's a little cutie!) and he gives them a clue and a Fast Forward. They'll have to traverse the Singapore Flyer, a giant ferris wheel, in order to head straight to the mat to meet Phil. Facing their fear of heights head on, they head for the wheel of death.

The other teams are hit with a Detour: pounding the drums or pounding the pavement. In pounding the drums, teams head to Speaker's Corner where they must learn and perform a complicated drum routine. In pounding the pavement, teams make their way to a pedestrian mall where they must collect various supplies and ten boxes of ice cream then sell 25 ice cream sandwiches that they make themselves. Gina votes: pounding the drums.

Everyone else had the common sense to head to the drums as well and Michael and Louie decide to also head to the Fast Forward, unaware that Dan and Jordan are already attempting it. A wasted trip as the cops head to pound the pavement and sell some snacks. 541 feet in the air, the brothers crawl their way through the challenge and head to the pit stop. You two are braver than I am and that's a fact. Not even for a million dollars!

Back at the detour, teams struggle with the complicated rhythm which could prove to be challenging for those who are actually musically inclined. Brent and Caite are the first and head to Istana Park and of course, U-Turn Carol and Brandy. The comments that they made about Caite during the very first leg are coming back to haunt them. Both U-Turns this season have been used more out of spite than strategy.

Dan and Jordan have each won a motorbike that they can use after the race... or sell on Ebay. Their mom would kill them, apparently. At least they're honest, telling Phil, "There's no way we'll step foot on that!"

Michael and Louie win the award for best cab driver, who bought 10 ice cream sandwiches in order to help speed up the challenge.

Carol and Brandy finally finish their drum performance, only to find out that they're going to have to go pound the pavement. Instead of realize that their nastiness is the reason they're heading to do another challenge, they continue to take personal stabs at Caite, calling her stupid and telling everyone to look her up on YouTube. Real classy.

The Road Block brings the teams to ASL Dock, where one team member has to count all the links in a chain, equally 521. Sounds easy enough but there is so much noise and distraction going on that it can be extremely difficult to keep your focus. Brent finishes first (way to go!), followed by Jet, Michael (he had a pitch counter so he doesn't get props), and Carol.

Teams head to Sentosa Amusement Park, where they must take a 1200 foot zip line ride down one of Asia's steepest mountains. No hesitation there by any of the teams and it looks like an awesome ride!

Brent and Caite arrive at the pit stop at Marina Barrage to take second place. Jet and Cord take third with a footrace determining fourth place. Michael and Louie get there first, which means the U-Turn has claimed another victim. Carol and Brandy have been eliminated from the race.
