Tatianna from America's Next Top Model Cycle 14

by Gina Scarpa and Michelle Spigner

Last night, on America's Next Top Model, the girls competed in a challenge, in which they had to establish chemistry almost immediately with judge and photographer Nigel Barker but things got more awkward when they had to do the same in a photo shoot with comedian Ross Matthews. In their second photo shoot, everything about their look was fake, from their hair to their nails to their tans. The judges felt that Tatianna was posing too much and criticized her film, the eliminated her from the competition. Today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about her experiences on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you try out for America's Next Top Model?
A. Tatianna: I wasn't even ... I didn't even have the inclination to try out. Someone asked me. I wasn't doing anything that day and I was like, "Okay, I guess I'll go." It was spur of the moment. It was surreal and insane to be on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You said on the show that you have a fascination with bodily functions. What is that all about?
A. Tatianna: I studied in school to be a medical examiner. Bodily functions... not disgusting, but more anatomy, is what I'm interested in. I studied to be a medical examiner so I wanted to learn about cause of death, homicide, and crime scenes. They make it seem like I have some weird obsession.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you give up school so that you could do Top Model?
A. Tatianna: Actually, I didn't. I stayed in school. I took four classes while I was there and it was extremely difficult. Not only do we not have any outside communication but you're gone for months and you're like, "Don't ask me where I'm going. I can't tell you where I'm going."

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You mentioned on the show that you came into the competition not knowing what you skills were. Do you feel like you found them?
A. Tatianna: Somewhat. I didn't have any modeling experience. I didn't have a anything to draw from. I couldn't be extremely confident immediately.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The judges said that you always have a standout photo, but your film as a whole wasn't always as good. What are your thoughts on that and how did you approach your shoots?
A. Tatianna: Whenever you have a scene, for instance the vampire shoot, it was kind of challenging because you can't see. You're in this freezing cold place. You have to get into that mindset. You're like, "I have to be scary, but sexy." You have no idea where the camera is and you're looking blindly around in order to get a good photo. I couldn't believe what the judges were saying. I need to see the film myself. The entire film is bad but there's only ONE good shot?

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How did you got along with the other girls?
A. Tatianna: I got along great with the other girls. I'm not confrontational. It wasn't so great to watch but I didn't have a problem with the girls and I wasn't bothered by what they had to say. Whenever they had trouble with another girl, I'd say, "What does it really matter. We're all here for a competition."

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you feel that you were eliminated too soon in the competition?
A. Tatianna: I felt really shaky after my last shoot. I wasn't surprised. I was really confident with the other challenges.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What did you learn most from the competition?
A. Tatianna: Since I didn't have any modeling experience, the immediately exposure was amazing. You get lessons from the Jays and Tyra. They teach you how to build confidence and talk in front of people. We went on stage and had to do some acting, which was fun for me. Just to get that confidence and exposure showed me what the modeling and entertainment world is like.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: It seems that you have two very different passions - studying to be a medical examiner and modeling. I would imagine it would be difficult to do both. How do you plan to balance those?
A. Tatianna: Becoming a medical examiner is such a long task. I'm just about to finish my undergraduate degree. I have a million more years of school to do, I think 12, before I can become anything. I've been trying to find something that I want to do besides a medical examiner because you have a path and journey you take, but you have to have some things to do in between. If you have this whole life of schooling with no other passion then you're flat. You have this one object. I wanted the flip side, the exact opposite of what I'm doing.
