The Real World: DC

by Matt Anaya

The twenty-third season of MTV's The Real World came to a close last night in Washington, D.C. Although not the wildest, most exciting bunch, these kids kept it as real as possible, and it was because they all had goals that they wanted to accomplish while in DC.

Mike, my personal favorite, has always been the most ambitious of the group, and his goal was to get involved in politics while filming the show. He accomplished his goal, as he met with a number of important people who focus on equal rights, including James Moran, a senator from Virginia.

Mike worked on an equal rights project with a number of other people and was invited to a White House dinner, which he attended, and saw President Obama speak. The president made a promise to Mike and the hundreds in attendance that he would end the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in the U.S. Army. Mike was extremely happy to hear the president talk about the exact policy he had worked on while in DC.

I've said it before and I will say it again: Mike is the man and he has a bright future in whatever he gets involved in. He is one of the few Real World alums that might make a positive influence in the world and would kick major ass on the challenges.

Callie was another one of my favorites, as she wanted to get her photography career off to a good start. She took hundreds of pictures while in DC, and set up an art show consisting of her photos, Emily's poetry, and Andrew's paintings near the end of filming.

The three of them all agreed to help Callie out, but Andrew went about his business a little bit differently than Callie, and she was starting to stress out because Andrew was pushing another deadline.

Although he had to pull an all nighter, Andrew once again produced some amazing pieces of art, and paired with Emily's poetry and Callie's photography, they put on an amazing show. It was such a success that Callie actually sold a few pieces. Congrats, kids.

Ty did not accomplish much this episode but on the last night he, and the rest of the group played Truth or Dare. Once again, this is not the wildest group of Real Worlders you‘ve ever seen but Ashley did get topless and doubled her Twitter followers by the end of the night!

Andrew was in quite the conundrum (sorry, big word) by the end of the season, as he did not know what to do with his new GF Andrea when he went back home. The two are inseparable and madly in love, but Andrew was still having doubts about their relationship. The two talked it over some sushi and Andrea wanted to move in Andrew, who thought the idea was hilarious, but kindly obliged and the two are still dating according to their Facebook accounts. Awww, the panda was tamed.

This season was not as wild and as controversial as most people like to see, but it was a season with meaning. The kids set and achieved a lot of their goals, as Andrew found his love, Ty had sex with his roommate, Josh found a band, Emily expressed and found herself, Callie got her photography career of to a rockin' head start, and Ashley found more confidence and adapted well even though she was out of her comfort zone. The funny thing is that Erika, who left the season early, was the only one not achieving her goals.

It was a fun season in DC, and it will only get wilder as next season MTV returns to New Orleans for season 24.

Tune in to The Real World: DC reunion next Wednesday at 10/9c on MTV.
