American Idol Season 9

by Gina Scarpa

Last night, on American Idol, it was time to find out which of the Top 12 didn't cut it with the viewers and was headed home. In recent weeks, it must have been a bit comforting for the eliminated singers that there were four of them leaving at once. At least they weren't the only ones that didn't deliver that week. Now, if you're the weakest one, it's you and you alone that gets to say goodbye to your time on American Idol.

Instead of a corny Rolling Stones medley performed by the Top 12, season 7 winner David Cook shows up to perform "Jumpin' Jack Flash" to get things started. Basically what he was saying is, "This is how it's done, kids."

The Top 12 is also the time when the contestants start participating in the Ford commercials. Last night's was for customized Ford Fiestas and I had to wipe the drool off my face a little bit. They looked pretty sweet. Casey was noticeably missing from the commercial because he was battling the flu on the day of the shoot but seems to be doing much better now.

On to the results. Paige is up first and finds out she's in the bottom three. Lee, Siobhan, and Aaron are all safe. Andrew and Tim stand next to each other as Ryan tells them that it's Tim who will be joining Paige tonight and Andrew can sit back down on the comfy couches.

Orianthi shows up to perform their hit, "According To You", and then it's time for more results. Didi, Crystal, Katie, and Mike are all safe. Katie looks like she's going to cry before she even knows her fate but don't worry, those waterworks will really kick into gear when someone is eliminated. Casey and Lacey stand next to each other and it's pretty obvious which is safe and which is not. Lacey joins Paige and Tim in this week's bottom three.

Ryan sends someone back to safety and that person is Tim. Cue the mixed look of shock and amazement that Tim has perfected so well since joining the Top 24.

Yet another guest performer hits the stage - Ke$sha with her song, "Blah Blah Blah". I was kind of expecting her to be terrible live but she impressed me a bit... though I think her mic was auto tuned.

After the break, and waiting 58 minutes, it's finally time to find out who MIGHT be headed home. Don't forget that the judges can save anyone at any time up until Top 5. Lacey Brown is told she received the lowest number of votes. She performs "The Story" by Brandi Carlisle for her last plea to the judges but it's a unanimous no. They won't be saving her. I'm pretty sure no one expected them to, including her.

Be sure to tune in when the Top 11 take the stage on American Idol, Tuesday night at 8/7c on Fox.
