John Park and Jermaine Sellers from American Idol Season 9

It was the end of the road for John Park and Jermaine Sellers last night on American Idol. Both struck out two weeks in a row with the judges - John with his performances of "God Bless The Child" and John Mayer's "Gravity" and Jermaine for his renditions of "Get Here" and Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On". The two are headed home, a few weeks shy of making the Top 10 and today, spoke to RealityWanted and reporters in a press conference call about their Idol experiences and what's next for them.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you think Simon took it too far when he said Purple Haze was going to get its lead singer back?
A. John: He was basically saying that I might go home. Of course, he dramatizes it so people at home watch it and get a kick out of it. I don't really mind it because I understand where he's coming from. After the elimination happened and I sang my last song, he came up to me and he shook my hand. He said, "Good job for coming this far." He's not that mean of a guy.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: People talked a lot about you in the early audition rounds, saying you were a favorite. What happened when you got to Top 24? Was it song choice? Was it nerves? What was it?
A. John: I think it was mostly song choice and nerves. I definitely got distracted by the cameras and the fact that the judges were going to criticize me in front of 30 million people on live tv. That took away from my concentration of just singing the song honestly. I couldn't do my best to interpret the songs in my own way.

Q. Did you feel confused by the feedback you received from the judges?
A. Jermaine: As an artist, you have to stay true to yourself. It's a certain way that I sang my whole entire life. I kept pulling back. I pulled back a lot because there was a lot more that I could've done. I felt like if I pulled any more back, I would be whispering to them.

Q. Who was your favorite Idol from a past season?
A. John: My favorite Idol winner was Kelly Clarkson. I vividly remember her finale show, when she sang "A Moment Like This" and she was crying on stage. It was an incredible moment for me when I was a kid.

Q. What was your most memorable moment?
A. John: Meeting the other contestants and becoming good friends with them. Also, working with Ricky Minor and the band. Working with the top of the top crew, band, and coaches, it was incredible. Meeting new people and meeting incredible people.
A. Jermaine: Being there and being in that first line with so many people and meeting so many different people, different personalities, and from different stages. Making it to Top 20 has been a blessing.

Q. What would you have performed next week?
A. John: I hadn't really figured it out yet. I was thinking either a Stevie Wonder, Marc Brussard, or Britney Spears. I had a long list of songs I wanted to choose from and try different things with but didn't get as far as that.

Q. What's next for you?
A. John: I'm going to head back to Chicago and see what kind of open doors there will be for me. I'll just kind of wait it out and go back to school this quarter, which happens in about two weeks. I'll take some time to decompress to think about if performing is something I really want to pursue. That will change as I get different offers. Everything's really up in the air but basically, I want to finish school at some point and pursue music, performance or not.
A. Jermaine: I'd like to be a contemporary gospel artist, like BeBe and CeCe Winans years ago, when it was marketable. When you'd see them on MTV and BET, not just a show that's about gospel.

Be sure to tune in next week when the Top 10 females take the stage on American Idol, Tuesday night 8/7c on Fox.
