Solitary 4.0

by Maureen Francisco

#1, the camp counselor and cancer survivor, found Val's treatment hard to swallow and was the first one to quit the BARFtending treatment.

The open bar continued and we're left with eight guests:
Pod 2: Rommel Gargoles, Martial Arts Instructor
Pod 3: Kelsey "Kelso" Thorn, Student
Pod 4: Courtney Hill, Dance Instructor
Pod 5: Todd Ranck, Bartender/Game Show Contestant
Pod 6: Tyler Tongate, Solitary Veteran from Season Two (in a first Solitary twist, replaced Rhonda Lucero, the Entrepreneur, who lost in the sweat challenge and was the driest guest)
Pod 7: Bea Henington, High School Teacher
Pod 8: Erik Shaw, Artist
Pod 9: Liberty Freeman, Children's Party Entertainer

#3, the student, came up with a "cleansing combination" with prune juice and coffee.

#6, the former Solitarian, chose prune juice and vinegar. #5 couldn't drink the concoction and called it quits. The professional game show contestant revealed that quitting then was part of his strategy. He wanted to pace himself.

But Val wanted to pick up the pace and added three additional ingredients to the bar: wasabi, sardines, and soy sauce.

#7, the high school teacher, chose garlic, sardines, and hot sauce. The combination was too much for #3 to contain and had no choice but to hit the red button.

#8, the artist, mixed wasabi, vinegar, and chocolate syrup. He threw in the towel with his own order.

Val then came up with her happy hour special: liquid cheese, refried beans, shot of mustard, shot of wasabi, and sweat from the previous treatment. The guests were happy to learn she was just kidding and told them they all could stay in Solitary for now.

With this being the fourth Solitary, Val asked whether this season would see its first female winner. We learned from #9, the contestant who once died three times, that her strength came from her deceased mom. #7 told us she got what it takes to go all the way after surviving a heartbreak. The missionary shared with us her ex-fiancé left her for someone else just five weeks before their wedding. Ouch!

Luckily for #7, she got a pass from Val's next treatment that spared her from anymore pain. The guests had to spank themselves using an object from a cookie sheet to a paddle. Val wanted to make sure these slaps were hard and loud. With the Solitarians' bodies covered in baby oil, they had to hit themselves with enough force so the noise registered at the loudest level of the "applause meter."

In round one, the guests had to hit themselves with a plastic hand.

The slaps increased to fifteen in round ten with the baseball bat as the object.

The frequency turned up another notch in round twenty-two with the contestants slapping their bodies thirty times with a baseball bat again. But, #4 miscounted and hit herself only twenty-five times and found herself in a penalty round where she had to spank her rear using a paddle for one minute.

By round twenty-eight, the pain was unbearable for #4. She said, "my ass is on fire" and hit the red button. Four hundred and ninety-six slaps later, Val told her, she's first to quit the treatment.

I was shocked that #4 skipped a beat with this treatment, considering she lost a tooth in a gymnastic fall. She was beginning to be my favorite female contestant. #8 cracked me up when I watched him hurt himself with a straight face. But, as you know, you are not going to win Solitary based on personality. I still think #2 is going to win. Pound for pound, he's physically the strongest and hasn't quit a treatment.
