As a fan of shows like Hell's Kitchen, Top Chef, and other cooking competitions, going to a food and wine festival that features some of the country's best chefs is a dream come true for me. When the Sun Wine Fest at Mohegan Sun Casino, in my home state of Connecticut, came about this month, I jumped at the chance to be able to eat the food that I've seen on tv so many times but never had the opportunity to try.

Before dinner was served, a cocktail event took place featuring Tyler Anderson (winner of Food Network's Chopped season 2) and Kevin Cottle (runner up of Fox's Hell's Kitchen season 6). Tyler served Alaskan King Crab, Cauliflower Foam, Marcona Almond, Gold Raisin and Caper Brittle while Kevin prepared Seared Wild Hawaiian Marlin, Blue Prawn Potsticker, Oolong Tea Glaze and Wasabi Melon pearls.

I had the chance to catch up with Kevin this weekend at the festival to find out what he's been up to since appearing on Hell's Kitchen last year. "We're still fielding offers and waiting to see what the right fit is," he told RealityWanted. "Basically, I'm doing a lot of touring around the country - a lot of speaking engagements which have come about because of the show, because I was on 7 million TVs. That's been a great platform, talking about sustainable seafood, which is my thing."

Coming up, Cottle will appear at the Boston Seafood Festival, where he will be the keynote speaker. Last year, that honor went to Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. He'll also appear at the Food and Wine Festival in Aspen and keeps busy running The Country Club in Farmington, CT, where he works with fellow Hell's Kitchen contestant Van Hurd. The two are currently working out a deal with a local news station to do weekly cooking segments that could turn into a few times per week. The bigger goal? A cooking show all their own.

This year, Kevin will continue work on a cookbook he plans to put out. "I'm totally working on a cookbook right now with a ghost writer," he revealed to RealityWanted. "It's more than just a cookbook, more than like six cups of this and two teaspoons of that. It's a little more personal so people will feel like they know me a little bit."

Also appearing at the Sun Wine Fest were the following chefs who prepared some amazing dishes:
Govind Armstrong: Seared Kobe Beef on Mini Yorkshire Pudding with Horseradish Cream
Todd English: Braised Lamb Shawarma
Ben Ford: Braised Pork Cheeks with Ham Hock Risotto
Michael Ginor: Roast Squab with Foie Gras, Melted Celebriac Mousseline, Rhubarb Tarte Tatin
Robert Irvine: Greek Peppercorn Steak au Poivre
Christina Pirello: Cauliflower Steak over Quinoa
Lydia Shire: Tagliata of Wagyu Sirloin with Deep Fried Porcini Butter and Aligot Potatoes; Tiramisu with Kahlua poured to order

Each of the celebrity chefs stood in front of their stations, personally plating their dishes and serving them to guests. Robert Irvine, host of Dinner: Impossible, joked and shouted to people that he would send them to another line if they weren't smiling. Chef, author, restaurateur, and host of PBS's Food Trip Todd English shook hands and posed for pictures with fans.

The following night at the festival, Bobby Flay, Andy Husbands (Hell's Kitchen season 6), Betty Fraser (Top Chef season 2) also appeared. For fans of food and cooking shows and competitions, attending one of these festivals in your area is well worth the money and the waiting in line to get up close and personal with your favorite chefs.
