Kelly Cutrone from Kell On Earth

Fashion fans have caught a little glimpse into the life of public relations guru Kelly Cutrone, of People's Revolution, after watching her on MTV's The Hills and The City. Next Monday, though, Kelly will take center stage with her very own reality show, Kell On Earth on Bravo. Her no nonsense, no holds barred attitude that she's known for has gotten her where she is today but there's a lot more to Kelly than meets the eye. Today, we spoke to her in an exclusive interview about the show, her new self help book, and her role as a single mom.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When did your interest in the fashion industry begin and how long ago did you form People's Revolution?
A. Kelly: I think I was first interested in fashion like most girls when I was a year and a half and my mom was shoving Disney princesses down my throat. I think that it really starts there, especially if you're a little girl, it probably starts the day you come home from the hospital and everybody's like, "Oh my God, you're so cute!" I started People's Revolution in 1996.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: We've gotten to see you on The Hills and The City on MTV. What made you want to do reality tv?
A. Kelly: The first thing that made me want to do reality tv was Lisa Love from Vogue. She said, "We're working on this tv show with Teen Vogue." I didn't know what The Hills was because I don't really watch tv. Like, it took me 6 years to figure out who Usher was. I'm way behind the eight ball with pop culture. So that's how I came onto television. I formed that great relationship with MTV. I had to really think about: "What are we doing here?" We are not housewives, we're not some freakadoo, whatever. We're women who are supporting ourselves. We're not a rich girls club. We're in New York and we built this amazing, well respected company. We were interested in making this leap forward. I'm known for being brutally honest and I'm that honest with myself. I told Robin, my partner, "We're either about to do the most destructive thing we could possibly do or we're gonna take this huge leap of faith and we're gonna end up really great," and she was like, "Okay!"

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: With Kell On Earth, we get to see all aspects of your life, including your role as a single mother to your daughter, Ava. Did you have any reservations about showing that side of you or putting her on camera?
A. Kelly: I'm not Kate Gosselin with cameras in my house. I'm not making money off of having her on tv. She's a very much a part of People's Revolution. Her dad and I broke up when I was 3 months pregnant. Her home was the press office for the first year of her life. She grew up there, literally. We moved a year later to another floor. I live and work in the same building. This week, she gave out a memo ever that said: "You're in the coolest place on earth don't you know? Do you wanna know where we are? P.S. It's People's Revolution" The selling point of Ava was that most people wouldn't think that I'm a mother. Most people think I'm a lesbian or a ball busting, man hating, power chick.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You have a book coming out next week called, "If You Have To Cry, Go Outside." Tell us a little bit about it.
A. Kelly: The book is coming out and you can order it on Amazon, Borders, etc. It's available for preorder now but it's coming out on Feb 2nd. It's a book I want to write for young women and gay men. It tells a lot of my stories about motherhood and my career... some horrible times and some really beautiful times. It's also broken down into chapters and it's a shoutout to women to consider the fact that they've been programmed by their moms and to think about a lot of the things that they're doing that they've been programmed to do. Learn to follow your intuition and follow your dreams.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you hope people get out of watching Kell On Earth?
A. Kelly: What I want people to get out of it is I want them to understand the amount of love and power that goes into collaboration. I want them to see that the truth is refreshing and fun. And I want them to learn that we have the #1 rated show in the history of television and come back for more!!

Kell On Earth premieres Monday, February 1st, at 10pm ET on Bravo.
