Christopher Straub from Project Runway Season 6

by Gina Scarpa

Last week, on Project Runway, the final five designers made their way to the J. Paul Getty Museum to find inspiration for their last challenge before Bryant Park.  Christopher was immediately drawn to a rock fountain but his design did not go over as well as he had hoped with the judges.  They felt that the fabric at the bottom of his dress was much too heavy and he became one of two designers eliminated from the competition.  Today, Christopher took time out of his busy schedule to talk to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about his experiences on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you decide to try out for Project Runway this season?
A. Christopher: I had actually tried out and was a semi-finalist in the casting process a couple times.  I wanted to do Project Runway because of the exposure that the show would bring.  Also, I really wanted to participate in something like this.  I knew the experience would be like nothing else.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You started out the season very strong then struggled towards the end.  What do you think happened?
A. Christopher: I was really just doing the same thing the whole time: not giving the judges anything boring and showing my point of view.  They just didn't get my ideas towards the end.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was the most helpful piece of advice that Tim Gunn gave you?

A. Christopher: "Don't bore Nina!"

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: In that last challenge before Bryant Park, how much pressure were you feeling?
A. Christopher: It was intense!  I think we were all creatively starved and it showed.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you agree with the feedback you received from the judges on your design?
A. Christopher: I totally agree with the feedback.  The judges come from the fashion world so they do know what their talking about... even if I didn't like it.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you feel that you made a strong enough case to go to Bryant Park?

A. Christopher: I stated my case and my vision the whole time.  If it wasn't meant to be... it wasn't meant to be.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Is there anything additional you wish you could've said?
A. Christopher: Nothing.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What are your thoughts on the three remaining designers: Carol Hannah, Althea, and Irina?
A. Christopher: I'm TOTALLY on Team Carol Hannah! Love her to bits.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What is next for you?
A. Christopher: I currently have a collection of leather handbags, belts and wallets on my website www.christopherstraub.com and am working on a more-affordable collection of pleather handbags due out in a couple weeks.
