Survivor: Samoa

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on Survivor: Samoa, Mother Nature continues to beat on the tribes and drive them to their breaking points.  I have been a fan of Survivor since day one and I can’t remember a time that I have seen it rain so hard for so long.  This game truly is only for the mentally strong.  Everyone’s hands and feet are white, pruny, and raw.  There is no relief from the cold, people are shaking uncontrollably and seriously lacking sleep and nutrition.

Meanwhile, there’s Russell H., of Foa Foa, who acts like he’s having the best time.  I have to say… like everyone else, I hated him in the beginning.  Now, I think he’s the funniest person to ever play this game.  He seems totally content freezing his butt off and never having dry clothes.  He just goes about his daily business while everyone looks like they’re one step away from the psych ward.

Tonight’s challenge has quite the twist – but more on that in a minute.  Teams will have to place one member in a giant ball while two blindfolded players push the ball through a course.  Once they arrive at the end, the two players will join two other blindfolded players and must complete a puzzle, using only the person in the ball for guidance.  The winning tribe will get a hot pizza.  I mean, chicken or steak would probably be more beneficial but I’m sure everyone out there wouldn’t turn down a pizza either.  The catch?  Both tribes would have to go to tribal council and vote someone off.  The winning tribe would get to sit in on the losing tribe’s time with Jeff.

Obviously, this is a ploy to even up the playing field since Foa Foa is getting killed.  I’m not complaining…

Galu needs to sit out players but Russell S. insists on staying in the competition, despite the fact that he has been feeling very weak.  When the tribes arrive at the puzzle, Russell completely collapses and Jeff has to stop the competition to see if he is okay.  Oh, Russell is NOT okay.  In fact, it’s almost scary how quickly his health deteriorates in a matter of minutes.  His heart rate is low and he can’t seem to stay conscious for more than a few minutes.

Probst makes a swift decision and cancels the challenge.  No pizza and both tribes are still going to vote somebody out.  If Russell feels better, he’ll be at tribal.  If not, Galu still must vote someone out.  Back at the Galu camp, everyone is miserable and some people say they feel lost without their leader.  (I’m still amazed that people even listen to or follow a leader on a daily basis in this game.)  There is talk of ousting Shambo or Monica and at Foa Foa, it comes down to Natalie and Liz.

At tribal council, the tribes get competitive and Eric shoots his arrogant mouth off, saying that there’s basically no way Galu can lose this game.  Oh, I wouldn’t be so quick to say that, my friend.  Russell H. fires back, saying that Foa Foa will come back fighting in the next challenge, even with four players.  Fortunately, they won’t have to worry about losing another team member because Jeff tells them that Russell S. has been removed from the game and, based on everything that’s happened, no one will be voted out tonight.  Lucky break, kids…
