Nick Brown from Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins

A new competitor on The Real World/Road Rules challenges is always going to be the first one targeted and so far, Chet Cannon and Nick Brown have been no exceptions.  Chet was sent packing in week one and Nick was eliminated in week two, courtesy of Wes in The Ruins.  Today, Nick spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview, responding to being called a “donut”, dishing on the drama queens, and opening up about doing another challenge.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You were targeted early in The Duel II.  What made you want to do another challenge?
A. Nick: Being targeted did not come as a surprise, believe it or not.  I was more shocked that Ryan, who I had trusted, and somewhat formed an alliance with, called me out. But it is a game and some play to win, while others play to win with integrity.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Does it frustrate you that the veterans gun for the new players on every challenge?
A. Nick: It’s frustrating, but what people don’t realize is that the challenges are a popularity contest rather than a game show.  Most of these people have down multiple shows, had sex, or lord knows what else together.  So they come in, not only being veterans, but friends.  The EASY way out is to pick on the people you know least about and who are the smallest.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you come into the game with any deals or alliances?  Did you form any when you got to Thailand?
A. Nick: In Thailand, my mission was to stay as long as I could without going into The Ruins.  I knew the team would elect me and I would, without a doubt, be up for elimination every time so I wanted to pick a way to alternate how we did the picking order.  One of the reasons I was adamant about breaking up the fight between Darrell and Wes was because Darrell had became like a mentor to me and I knew as long as he didn’t get voted into The Ruins, he would try to sway the decisions for me not to be put in.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How did you feel about Wes (or Evenlyn) threatening to throw challenges so that your team could win?
A. Nick: I thought it was great… more money for us and a better chance for me to survive in the game and even in the ruins.  I know they weren’t doing it to be scumbags and to gain a fair leverage with unfair team members. The instant Casey and Shauvon volunteered themselves to be in The Ruins I said to Brad, "Two girls vote themselves in and you don’t think that should be questioned?  Something’s up."  I KNEW the girls were being dishonest.  I actually thought Kelly Anne was a good player and would help our team. Even though Wes was on the other team, I really didn’t see a reason to conspire with him to save her because ultimately, her fate was in a girl’s hands, not a guy’s.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Last week, Kenny called you a "donut".  First of all, what does that even mean and secondly, were you offended?
A. Nick: I’m guessing it means "zero" or "soft".  Whatever it means to him, fine. Considering anyone who knows the life I've come from and dealt with can attest to the opposite, no, I wasn’t offended. Kenny and Evan talk for the sake of hearing their own voices and for TV time.  Nothing said on camera would ever or has ever been said to my face.  We have done spring breaks together, interviews, talked about life, and not once, have I heard anything of the sort come from them.  Phony people will be phony and if you let the immature name calling get you all riled up, then you’re giving them the rise they oh so desperately seek.  I wasn't prepped for the childish jab, but was not at all surprised.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: There are always lots of hookups on the challenges.  Did you get any love or did you keep to yourself?
A. Nick: I get this question A LOT.  The majority of people on these shows are so recycled, as you can tell by the love pentagon, from this season.  It seems like everyone has hooked up with someone in this realm at one point or the other.  Some actually conjure up the romance for the pure sake of TV time.  I would rather not give the power to hurt me on national TV, especially these girls.  It makes great TV for YOU to watch but not for ME to live.  I’m a charmer, a flirt, but that’s where it has stayed on these challenges.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You can't say Real World/Road Rules challenge without also saying the word "drama".  In your opinion, who was the MOST dramatic while you were there?  Who was the least dramatic and just there to compete?
A. Nick: It seems like if you’re not a scumbag, lie, cheat, backstab, screw, or screw over people, then you’re not "dramatic" enough.  The most dramatic, I believe, are Kenny and Evan.  I expect women to be dramatic... not so much men.  Tonya has issues she deals with that cause her drama.  Even though the drama is based around Wes, he had no other option but to find ways to gain leverage.  The least dramatic are Brad, Adam, Cohutta, Brianna, and Ibis but the season isn’t over yet, so time will tell.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What do you think went wrong for you in The Ruins against Wes?
A. Nick: That thing was 15 minutes of agonizing pain.  There were times were we both gave each other a 1 minute break because it was just so intense.  No excuses, no needed cop out explanations for my loss.  I lost to a much stronger and fiercer competitor.  When it comes to one on one combat, I played basketball all through high school and college.  I’m quick, agile, strong… but after losing that elimination, it showed me areas that I need to and have been working on more, such as my endurance and leg strength.  I congratulated Wes of on his victory right after.  No one wants to lose and yeah, it sucked, but he beat me fair and square like a man,

and I can live with losing to Wes on those terms.  It would’ve been SWEET to have beaten him though!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you feel that you might want to come back for another challenge?
A. Nick: I love the opportunity to travel and I feel blessed to be in the position to have the chance do the amazing things we do, so I'll keep coming to the challenges if I can… at least until I win one!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Anything else you'd like to say about your time in Thailand?
A. Nick: Thailand is a beautiful country.  Life is so much different there and it is amazing to witness first hand.  The food is spicy so be prepared!   Lastly, even though water pressure is low, unlike everyone else, I flushed my toilet paper.  Sorry, my mother taught me different!  This is just the end of a chapter, not the end of the story, people.  It’s STILL a movement.  Grand hustle, homie!
