Real World/Road Rules Challenge

by Matt Anaya

This week has been premiere week on MTV and Wednesday it was the latest installment in MTV’s reality competition the Real World Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins. This marks the 18th season of MTV’s reality spin-off and this season is not short on chaos and debauchery. Those are good things, I mean, that is why we love the show, right?!

Right away we are informed about a reality TV producer’s dream, a love pentagon between Wes, Kenny, Johanna, Cohutta, and KellyAnne.

If you are new to the Challenge, Wes and Johanna were engaged and shortly after breaking up Johanna fooled around with Kenny, ruining all chances of Wes and Johanna getting back together.

Extremely disappointed in Johanna, Wes has moved on and is now dating KellyAnne, who was dating Cohutta. This is the thickest and best story line this season has to offer and the love pentagon will, and already did make things interesting.

The Ruins’ teams are broken down into Champions (red team) and Challengers (blue team), so, of course, the Champions team is stacked with egos bigger than the male members’ biceps.

The Champions consist of Darrell, Derrick, Evan, Evelyn, Ibis, Johanna, Johnny Bananas, Katie, Kenny, Susie, Syrus, Tonya, Veronica, and Wes.

The Challengers (who do not have a chance to win a competition or an elimination challenge) team consists of Adam, Brad, Brianna, Casey, Cohutta, Danny, Dunbar, KellyAnne, Kimberly, Nick, Sarah, Shauvon, Diem, and Chet.

Prior to the challenge both teams submitted a list of three girls and three guys who are eligible for the elimination round. Both teams will have a representative in the elimination but the team that wins the competition gets to pick who plays in the elimination. (It’s easier to understand if you watch the show;-)).

Wes is not getting along with any of his teammates, which include a former fiancé and a few former best friends, and decides he is going to throw this week’s competition (and probably as many as he can as long as he is there).

Although Wes desperately tried to ruin the competition, the Champions team still prevailed and resigned to his fate, Wes voluntarily goes into the Ruins (elimination challenge).

Darrell took major offense after Wes nearly sabotaged the Champions victory and later that day Darrell and Wes nearly came to blows. There was no fight and Darrell actually backed out of a fight he instigated by calling Wes’ girl a whore (totally inappropriate).

Wes gets matched up with Chet (the Bowtie Killer) in the elimination and Tonya picks Diem.

The players had to build a 20-foot ladder out of bamboo and climb to the top without falling. It actually looked easier than it was and all four of the players grew frustrated at the task but the Champions won both matches, barely.

Ouch. Not a good start for a team that has little chance to win anything against these monsters.

Power Rankings
1. Evan is a smart dude and you can count on him being there in the end.
2. Kenny is a mimbo (male bimbo) but always seems to find himself in the money.
3. Evelyn is fierce and is the best female competitor.
4. Derrick is a staple at the end because he works the hardest.
5. Susie has been the same for all these years, mentally tough.
6. Dunbar is on a really weak team.
7. Johnny Bananas looks to mess with Wes’ head next week, not a good idea bruh.
8. Wes would be higher on the list but everyone hates him.

9. Syrus is a player/coach and I didn’t even know he was on the show … again.
10. Tonya is like Barry Bonds, thrives under controversy.
11. Brad barely did anything this week and will be eliminated sooner rather than later. Love ya bro (same college).
12. Darrell is popping off out the mouth and looks to be going home early.
13. Katie is a crazy bitch but she has a chance.
14. Johanna is smart and good competitor but she is under a lot of stress this season.
15. Kelly Anne is Wes’ girlfriend, so she might have a chance as soon as Wes leaves.
16. Sarah is a wild card because I do not know much about her.
17. Cohutta has a small chance to advance past four weeks.
18. Danny has never been good at these challenges.
19. Shauvon had sex with CT on the roof last season and I will always love her for that.
20. Ibis is another wild card. I have not seen her in awhile so lets see what she is made of.
21. Veronica has calmed down and aged well, but I don’t think she has a chance.
22. Kimberly might have a chance, but it’s too early to tell. Let’s not get ghetto!
23. Casey always struggles in these things and she looked better without implants.
24. Nick is always on the chopping block.
25. Adam fights like a girl. No offense girls.
26. Brianna is here to hook up.

Sidenotes

- Darrell is a strong competitor but is very lucky to be alive after saying that stuff about Wes’ girlfriend. It looks like Darrell gets into a fight later on in the season, and if that is true you can count him out of the running.

- I love Shauvon, she was so happy to make it to the next round and get the opportunity to hook up with someone new! Although, I feel sorry for her, as she pops an implant next week. Call me babe.

- Tonya is up to her old tricks (getting ridiculously drunk) and I have a love hate relationship with her.

- I can’t believe Casey is on the show, she has no chance and she has looked better.

- I hope someone punches Johnny Bananas this season. He’s deserved it for years.

- It was sad to see Diem and Chet go, they actually wanted to be there and compete and are much better than most on their team.

- Chet returned home to his job at American Apparel.

- My friends were very disappointed after hearing Shauvon’s were fake.

Next week Johnny upsets Wes and I think Shauvon and Nick go home. Congrats Adam!
