The Bachelorette

by David McAlpine

Last week on The Bachelorette, David got angry with Juan for "breaking the Man Code," Jillian saved Juan after a majority of the guys voted him out of the house, and Brian, Julien, Mathue and Simon were all sent packing.

For this week, Chris tells all the guys that there will be three dates: one group date and two individual dates and, as usual, a rose would be up for grabs at each one. If the guy on the individual date didn't get a rose, he'll be out. One added perk this week: getting a rose means the guy gets to move out of the bunkhouse and into the mansion with Jillian.

First up on an individual date is Ed, who is concerned that he'll go home empty handed after the date is over. Jillian and Ed take a helicopter ride, where Jillian lets him know she thinks he's very hunky. They land on the top of a building in downtown Los Angeles and Ed finds out they'll be taking a zip-line down to the ground. Honestly, I'd be scared, too, if I were him, because the zip line looks ridiculously steep.

Of course, multiple guys help Jillian and Ed over the edge as they...inch?...down towards the ground. Both of them sit there, hanging over the streets of downtown, talking really loud--how romantic. At the bottom, they jump into a pool, then head back up to the top for a romantic dinner. Ed discusses his trouble with balancing his job and free time, but he admits he wants to be totally secure when he has a family.

Meanwhile, in the bunkhouse, the guys question whether or not Ed will get a rose. Reid comments that if Ed gets into the mansion, he's definitely a threat to them all. A date card then arrives and Brad, Juan, Kiptyn, Mark, Michael, Mike, Robby, Reid, Tanner F., Tanner P. and Wes are all headed on a date. Yes, it's an 11-guy date, and David is not too happy about it, while Robby and Reid are excited to be on their first date.

Back to Ed and Jillian, where Ed says he's working on being less guarded. Jillian decides to give Ed a rose and the show's crew picks up Ed's stuff to move into the mansion, putting all the rest of the guys on edge.

On the group date, everyone gets to take part in filming some Western scenes (with Jillian in each one, of course). Jillian says she wants to test who can be a good sport, so she has all the guys go get dressed. Some of the guys get the short end of the stick (like Michael and Mike getting a gay scene rather than a kissing scene with Jillian).

It's painfully obvious ABC didn't cast these guys for their acting ability as the cameras roll. Brad and Jillian kiss first and no one can bear to watch it. Tanner P. says it looks like Brad is "kissing his sister," (says the guy with the foot fetish) while Brad thinks he's an "ultra badass." Right.

The guys each get their chance with Jillian, but Robby's scene makes Jillian go weak at the knees. After a couple takes, Wes pulls Jillian aside and asks her for a real kiss later that isn't for the cameras. Jillian even acknowledges the fact that he's acting like she belongs to him, but she's digging it. I'm just sketched out by it, but hey, if that's what she's into...

The filming wraps with Mike and Michael's gay scene and Jillian is impressed with how they handled it. Afterward, the 12 head downtown to a loft for some drinks and jacuzzi time. Reid pulls Jillian to the side, excited to talk to her alone. Just before he tries to kiss her, Juan takes Jillian away to talk about the vote from last week.

Back in the bunkhouse, David is plastered and can't stop talking about how much he doesn't like Juan. Sasha also finds out he'll be on the other individual date.

On the rooftop, everyone is in the jacuzzi and Tanner P. scoops up Jillian's feet and starts rubbing them on his face...gross. No one knows how to react to it, so they all kind of laugh awkwardly. Robby takes Jillian out of the terrible situation and they share a kiss on the side. After, Jillian announces that she's giving the date's rose to Robby for being so natural on and off camera.

Sasha and Jillian head off on their date to a car museum, where Sasha gets a choice of two car to drive around LA in. He picks the Ferrari and tries to speed into Jillian's heart. She loves it, but then the tone gets serious when Sasha tells her he almost died in a car accident when he was 18 (and yet he still drove like that in the car with her). Jillian also seems concerned that he's never been heartbroken (really?) and the two start to show conflicting views on love.

Cue Wes to start playing his song (the same song) to the guys, all of whom look like they want to strangle him. At this point, it's just entertaining to watch Wes think he's a great musician.

Back to the museum, where Jillian says she doesn't think she can measure up to Sasha's expectations, since he seems to be holding out for the perfect girl. So, instead of giving him a rose, she sends him home on...a bus to LAX. Ouch. The crew loads up his stuff in a van and drive off, while all the drunk guys celebrate a fallen contestant.

Predictably, Wes walks over to the mansion singing the same song for Jillian, who seems shocked and smitten. She invites him up to "finish the song," but he never seems to get past the one part we hear.

It's pre-rose ceremony time and the alcohol sure is flowing. Lots of the guys look tipsy and well on their way to plastered. Some liquid courage, perhaps? Maybe for Reid, who snags Jillian and gets the kis he wanted for a long time.

Meanwhile, David is absolutely hammered. Without a doubt, no questions asked. He's pissed he didn't get to see Jillian this week, so he tries to talk to her until Juan interrupts them. He gets furious and starts talking about Juan to the other guys. Juan tries to teach Jillian some Spanish and she fails miserably.

As if it weren't enough, Tanner P. sits down with Jillian and puts her feet in his lap. You can see the drool forming as he looks at her feet--it's just getting downright gross. David tries to rally the guys against Juan, then starts yelling at Juan to go back inside. Mark stands up for Juan and takes the brunt of David's anger. Kiptyn takes the opportunity to snag a smooch from Jillian, while David just gets increasingly belligerent (and progressively more drunk).

Chris tells the guys two will be going home tonight (since Sasha already went home), leaving 13. Ed and Robby already have roses, and Jillian gives roses to:

Jake, Reid, Mark, Jesse, Tanner P. (plus some shocked faces on this one), Wes, Juan (insert David's angry eye roll), Kiptyn, then Mike.

David looks like he's about to kill Jillian, Tanner F. looks sad and Brad looks confused as Jillian holds the last rose. She gives it to David, who stumbles over and hugs her a little too long. Both Tanner F. and Brad are left in the dust, but neither seem to be too upset over the loss.

The Bachelorette airs Mondays on ABC at 8/7c.
