The Bachelorette

by David McAlpine

Last week on The Bachelorette, Jillian met 25 possible fiancés at a whirlwind meet and greet--then met 5 more as they crashed the party. After having a chance to think it over, 10 guys were left without a rose, narrowing the field to 20 suitors.

You know that mansion that they always show? Well, it's all Jillian's this time! All of the remaining guys are living in a guest house next door. But they're not allowed to move in yet--only after they get a rose this episode can they move in.

They all join Chris, the host, in the house, where they find out there will be two group dates and one individual date this week, all with a rose at stake. Brad, Brian, Ed, Mathue, Michael, Sasha, Tanner P. and Wes are up first for a pool date at Jillian's mansion.

As the party begins, Jillian and Michael go to the roof for some private time. Jillian walks downstairs and grabs the rose and, instead of giving it to a guy, she gets in a car and drives off. All the guys quickly realize Jillian is gone and they're given a task by Chris: find Jillian somewhere in Los Angeles. The guys are paired up into teams of two (Mathue and Sasha, Michael and Tanner P., Brad and Wes, and Brian and Ed), with the winning team getting the evening with Jillian.

Brad and Wes already butt heads, each thinking that each other is slowing them both down. Michael and Tanner figure out that they have to go to Hollywood and they're all off. Meanwhile, Jillian is in a necklace shop picking out necklaces she wants to get. She calls the guys and lets them know that she hasn't been rescued yet, getting them all revved up.

Brian and Ed arrive to the first location first, a restaurant with a rose flag outside of it, where they kind tuxedos inside in the kitchen. Their next clue directs them to "lay it on the line." Wes and Brad arrive next, then run out of the shop and jump in their car when they needed to be walking, prompting more arguing between the two. Brian and Ed get to the next stop, the jewelry store where Jillian was, first, followed by Sasha and Mathue, then a bickering Brad and Wes.

Brad and Wes, however, solve the next clue first and arrive at the finish line, the Crocker Club, first. Jillian then has to choose between Brad and Wes to have dinner with. Brad thinks he'll get it, but she picks Wes, angering Brad, since he thinks Wes is fake.

At dinner, Wes and Jillian talk about his past. Wes claims he's only had three long-term relationships (he's 32) and that he's not a womanizer. Ha! That's a good one. They share a kiss while the rest of the guys look on over the security camera, then she gives Wes a rose, creating more hate for him in the house.

The next date card comes and it's for a one-on-one date with Jake. Jillian picks him up with his wings on (great sign!) and they head over to the House of Blues, which is done up western style. She pulls him onto the bar and the two dance, surprising Jillian because she was worried Jake was too reserved for her.

Jake and Jillian talk about his past as a pilot and their views on marriage. They share a kiss (yay!), then Martina McBride comes out and sings for them. Jillian gives him a rose and they dance the night away.

The third and final date card comes and it's for David, Jesse, Juan, Kiptyn, Mark, Mike and Simon. Julien, who didn't get a date, is unphased and not concerned that he won't see Jillian this week. The guys and Jillian head over to Venice Beach to a basketball court, where they start a pick up game. David showcases his talent, while the foreigners show off their lack of it. Simon trips all over himself and Juan drops Jillian after picking her up to let her dunk the ball.

The Harlem Globetrotters appear out of nowhere to play against the guys (who are all shirtless) and they slaughter the guys. David starts to get angry at Juan because he thinks Juan is both a fake and a prissy. David gets picked by the Globetrotters as the best one for Jillian (relevant how?), then they hit the beach.

Jillian suggests someone take a random guy's Speedo and run into the ocean with it, which Mike has no problem doing. They all get shots afterward to toast to the day, but Juan pours his out, pretending to drink it. David gets overly angry at this antic, saying that Juan should get beat up for violating the "Man Code." Jillian gives the date's rose to Mike for being spontaneous, securing his spot in the guest house. Everyone gets in the pool and chats until the night is over.

Before the rose ceremony, Robby tries to take Jillian aside and talk to her, since he didn't go on a date. As he starts talking, Wes comes over and grabs Jillian, pissing off the rest of the group for his aggressive tactics. The two come back and Chris tells everyone four guys will be going home tonight, leaving 16 in the running.

Tanner P. makes a crucial mistake and tells Jillian about how much he loves feet--and she's thoroughly creeped out. The guys start complaining about Wes as Jillian and Jesse sneak off for some conversation about how serious he is. Jesse lets Jillian know he skipped out on a trip to Italy to learn about wine making to come on the show. Meanwhile, the rest of the guys confront Wes about his "uncool" behavior and he makes it clear he's not sorry for how he's trying to get Jillian's attention.

Twist time! On top of eliminating four people, the guys have to vote for who they would like to see gone (excluding Wes, Jake and Mike, who all have roses). All the guys start scheming and David and Juan and quickly singled out. David can't stop talking about how much Juan sucks and the other guys start to panic about being noticed. Brian takes off his clothes and jumps into the pool, then is denied a kiss by Julian.

After the votes were counted, Julien had the third most votes, David the second most, and Juan with the most. Jillian, however, saves him by giving him a rose. Jillian then continues with the rose ceremony, giving roses to Jesse, David, Ed, Sasha, Mark, Michael, Tanner P., Kiptyn, Reid, Robby, Tanner F. and Brad, leaving Brian, Julien, Mathue and Simon without roses. Mathue is upset as he leaves, Simon is indifferent, Brian thinks he sunk himself with his dip in pool and Julien looks too shell shocked to say anything of substance.
