Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds from American Idol 8

by Gina Scarpa

Because the judges decided to save Matt Giraud last week on American Idol, a first for the competition, a double elimination took place Wednesday night.  First, Lil Rounds got the boot, followed by Anoop Desai.  Both were not strangers to the bottom three and, at least one of them was not surprised that it was their time to go.  Following their elimination, Anoop and Lil participated in a conference call, talking to the press about their experience on the show and what the future holds for them.  Read on to find out their thoughts on American Idol.

On their feedback from the judges this week…
Anoop:  I didn’t think it was my worst performance but, you know, that’s the Simon Cowell that America expects. He’s very superlative driven. I wasn’t offended at all.
Lil: I kind of got to the point where I was like, “Okay, I don’t know if I can win with them“.  I can honestly say I went up there and gave it everything I had each time my foot touched that stage.

On how they felt going into the elimination…
Anoop: I actually told Ryan right before the show, I said “Hey man, don't mess around with me tonight”.  So I was glad that it was relatively quick. If I had a choice, they would mail me the results.
Lil: I actually had a good feeling that it might've been about time right there for me to be ready to go.  I kinda stared coping with the idea that I might be leaving before the show.

On who Lil is supporting in the competition…
Lil: I gave Allison the biggest hug that I could possibly give. We were crying like, of course, two girls but that's my baby and I just told her to make sure she keeps her head up and continues to be Allison and go out and nail it each week like she's been doing and hold it down for the ladies.  She's such an amazing singer, she's gonna do absolutely fabulous.

On what Anoop plans to do when he gets home…
Anoop: I want to sit on the couch, I want to wake up at noon, and then I wanna go get a sunrise biscuit.

On what kind of music they’d like to make…
Anoop: I really like the things, for instance, that Ne-Yo is doing right now. I think that's the direction, obviously not a copycat, but I'm really interested in pursuing that direction in music. I know that I want to go the pop R&B route.
Lil: I want to do R&B with a soulful vibe.

On their future plans…
Anoop: I plan on pursuing any record deal I can get.  Right now that’s my number one priority. My only priority. My wildest dream was that I would be a pop star. And thanks to this show, that dream is going to become a reality. I have faith in my own ambition
Lil: I'm headed home to spend time with my husband and my kids, then get ready for the Idol tour!
