Survivor Tocantins Sandy Burgin

I think it’s safe to say that things didn’t go exactly as planned for Sandy Burgin on Survivor: Tocantins.  On the first day in the game, Jeff Probst asked the two tribes to vote someone out, without ever having talked to them.  This vote would simply be based on first impressions.  Sandy was voted out of Jalapao because of her age but she was really just voted out of the exhausting trek to the camp.  After a helicopter ride there, she tried to redeem herself with her tribe, performing well at challenges.  When they lost last night’s immunity challenge, though, her name was back on the table and she was voted out of the game for good this time.  Today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview and opened up about her tribe mates and what she wished she did differently.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Were you nervous at all, going into Survivor?
A. Sandy: No, not really.  I’m an adventurous type.  There’s not much that I don’t like to do.  I like the outdoors so the game is right up my alley.  When I told my friends and family I was trying out, they didn’t even bat an eye!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You had a tough start to the game.  Your tribe voted you out, or so they thought, and you openly admitted that you were pissed about it.  How did you recover from that and get your head back in the game?
A. Sandy: At camp, I saw that I could find the idol.  I wasn’t gonna build the shelter.  This is a dog eat dog world in Survivor and you have to look out for number one.  I tried to be really strong in challenges, too.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Why do you think that you ended up being the one voted out instead of Sydney?
A. Sandy: It was a tossup.  I swear to Pete it was a 50/50 deal.  There was a chance I’d go home and there was a chance I’d stay.  They took beauty over strength and beauty doesn’t win challenges.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did Sydney pull her weight in challenges and around camp?
A. Sandy: She did good around camp.  Two of the challenges we lost, Sydney was in the limelight.  It took her forever to decide what to do.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Does she really have a showmance going on with Joe?
A. Sandy:  Oh, I think she’s playing the game.  She’s in a relationship.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you have any idea about the cross tribe alliance between Brendan and Taj?  Will they be able to pull it off or are the other players going to pick up on it.
A. Sandy: Nope, no clue.  I think they’ll figure it out.  You can feel things in a game like that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: If you made it to the merge, who would you have looked to align yourself with?
A. Sandy: Stephen and JT.  Opposites attract and they’re definitely opposite.  JT is a cattle rancher and Stephen goes to an office every day.  They’re thick as thieves, those two.  I love Stephen to death, I hope he wins the million.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Despite getting voted out so early, are you satisfied with your experience on Survivor?
A. Sandy: I’m definitely satisfied!  I was really fortunate to go on after being voted out first.  I’m thrilled with the opportunity.  Getting on the show is a feat in itself.  I wish I played a little more under the radar but I’m just not that kind of person.  I was just being me.
