Make Me A Supermodel Ken Thompson

On last night's season 2 premiere of Make Me A Supermodel, Ken was unfortunately the first model eliminated from the competition.  The contestants were asked to pose, with partners, in a plexi-glass box suspended above the New York City streets.  Ken posed with Colin and the photographer was not impressed with either of their performances.  The two found themselves in the bottom group this week and Ken was eliminated because the judges felt that his heart was not really in modeling and because he lacked charm.  Today, Ken spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about his experiences on the show as well as his budding music career.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you want to try out for the second season of Make Me A Supermodel?  Did you watch season 1?
A. Ken: No, I didn't watch it.  I don't watch much television.  I mean, I watch news and sports but not much shows.  I used to model full time in New York.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you arrived to begin the competition, was there anyone that you thought you might have to look out for, anybody that might give you a run for your money?
A. Ken: No, not really because modeling is such a bizarre industry.  There's no way to predict who someone would like or not like.  It's very abstract.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you have any sort of reaction to finding out that Tyson Beckford would be a mentor this season instead of a judge?
A. Ken: I was pretty indifferent because I didn't know that he was a judge last season.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did Tyson offer any advice that you took with you after being eliminated?
A. Ken: Not really.  I had already modeled and honestly, most of the stuff on the show was just for tv.  There wasn't any advice that went beyond the obvious.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Some people really struggled in that first challenge for different reasons.  How did you approach it?
A. Ken: I wasn't uncomfortable as far as being in a box with my shirt off.  As far as a photo shoot, though, it was stupid.  I've never heard of a photo shoot where you are that far away from the photographer.  You couldn't even hear anything.  At one point, Colin and I were posing and the photographer was sitting down there eating lunch.  I was like, "He doesn't even have a camera in his hand!"

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The judges picked up on the fact that modeling isn't your first love.  Do you think that it should be about whether or not you love the modeling industry or just whether or not you're good at it?
A. Ken: It's not that modeling isn't my first love.  You should judge me based on... forget where my heart is.  It's not like I didn't try.  If they felt like I wasn't good enough, that's fine.  There are plenty of models in New York, though, who don't see this as their dream.  They just make good money doing it.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Tell us a little bit more about your music and what your plans are.
A. Ken: I'm a singer and I'm in a band.  We're releasing an album on ITunes in April.  Modeling is fun, but it's not a long term career.   Singing is something I could see myself doing for the next 20 years.  I can see that as something long term.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you think that the show helped you further your music career?
A. Ken: Yeah, people can say what they want, that I used the show.  They used me, too.  I've been contacted by all kinds of people.  The whole thing was for exposure and I achieved that.
