Americas Next Top Model Season 14

by Danae Young

After so many cycles of America’s Next Top Model, I kept wondering what kind of creative first episode Tyra could come up with this time. What better place to go than Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, NV for an elegant yet slightly creepy goddess theme. The 34 girls that arrived in Las Vegas were greeted by a group of men who looked like they just walked off the set of 300 where they were sent to change into matching goddess outfits. The girls’ first task was to take profile pictures followed by a runway walk that was covered in fake smoke to give the effect of a goddess walking on clouds. Tyra then made her always unforgettable entrance where she magically appeared and announced herself as the Goddess of Fierce.

The next step was to cut the group of 34 girls to just 21. Each girl was sent to a box with her name on it and if there was a golden wreath inside, they were moving on to the next photo shoot. We all know what happens next, the boxes are opened and the girls without a wreath begin sobbing uncontrollably and convincing themselves they will have another shot. The rest of the girls are jumping for joy, completely forgetting that they haven’t even made the cut just yet. At the photo shoot each girl is given a specific goddess to depict. There hasn’t been any drama yet so we know its coming soon and low and behold, Sandra and Angelea get into a girl fight over something ridiculous that I didn’t even understand. The shoot ended and it was time for the final cut to choose the 13 girls that would be living in the house in the Upper East Side. Anyone else think of Gossip Girl when they heard that?

After the girls arrived at the house, drama already began. Celia was given the golden key to the house and was told she got to pick first bed. Sandra decides she claimed the bed before Celia did, completely disregarding everything Nigel and Paulina had told them earlier. London decides to be the peacemaker and just gives Sandra her bed to shut her up. I would’ve just told her to suck it up and deal with the floor. The girls had their first photo shoot the next day in Central Park where they were supposed to portray little girls playing beloved childhood games.

Later, it was time for the first elimination. I would have to say my favorite photo out of the bunch was definitely Celia and her hula hoop so there was no way she could be going home. Sandra’s picture where she was supposed to be a little girl playing hide and go seek was probably my least favorite. All I have to say to that picture is that IT needs to go hide and nobody should ever seek it. So when the bottom two was Sandra and Isabella, I thought for sure Sandra was going home. Then I realized: Who would cause the drama in the show anymore? No one, so it was time to say bye-bye to Isabella.

Next week’s episode is the best episode of the cycle -  it’s makeover time! Be sure to watch next week when only 12 will continue on in the hopes of becoming America’s Next Top Model, Wednesday nights at 8pm ET on The CW!
