Recently we had the opportunity to speak with Haylie Duff from MTV’s reality competition series “Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods”.
Q. So how did you get involved in this show?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): Reveille productions approached my agent and because of my experience in Hairspray and other performances they thought I would be a good fit.
Q. So tell us why this competition is so great?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): It is a reward career making role. The winner will be able to play Elle Woods.
Q. So how was the drama on the show?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): There are 10 girls in a house, so of course there is going to be drama. Though the majority of the drama stems from the challenges.
Q. What kind of challenges are there?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): They are all beneficial to the girls. We do stuff to wear them out.
Q. What was your role on the show?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): I am a mentor for the girls. I am treated more as a peer and support system for the girls. Also I am an executive producer on the show.
Q. How tough was it to be in this competition?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): You can’t fake it. It takes real talent and these are the top 10 out of 2,500 girls that auditioned.
Q. What does it take to win the competition?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): They really have to be a triple threat. They have to be able to sing, dance and keep the integrity of the show. The winner is someone that brings a unique and fresh personality to the show.
Q. Was it hard watching some of the girls get eliminated after being so close to them?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): It was devastating to me to watch them get eliminated. But overall they received great experience while on the show, and got to work with some incredible instructors.
Q. Do you think the judging was fair?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): Yes. I actually learned a lot by watching the judges. I was difficult for everyone involved, so much talent but overall it was fair.
Q. So what are your future plans?
A. Haylie Duff (Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods): I am heading back to Los Angeles tonight and then off to Michigan on the 15th to star in a movie called Tug. Also I have a movie called Backwoods coming out on Spike June 8th.
